- Amendment to motion from Kings Heath & Moseley on Education
Proposed by Richard Hatcher (Birmingham), Rob Marsden (Tamworth), Jay Woolrich (Bristol)
At the end of the motion, delete the clause "and an end to setting and streaming"
Then add the following to the motion:
Education is a key battleground in the class struggle, exemplified among other issues by Academies and the academic-vocational divide at 14, and will remain so under a Conservative government. Respect has the potential to play an influential role in this struggle.
Conference therefore agrees to establish an Education Working Group, open to anyone interested, with the aims of:
- Developing our policies on education: deepening our analysis and critique of current ruling class policies, developing an alternative, socialist, vision for education, and developing our campaigning strategies.
- Helping to coordinate Respect members' activities on education issues;
- Producing public material on education (e.g. on the Respect website, in the Respect paper, and/or as a Respect pamphlet)"
